Hayden Griffin

CTO at PayMidas

I lead engineering at PayMidas, a payments company in Europe, and write a lot of the code. Mostly TypeScript, mostly fintech: escrow, payment APIs, onboarding and compliance.

Before PayMidas I was a senior engineer at Jumptech, and before that I worked on IoT and fintech products.

In my spare time I build open-source apps for TVs, the PS5 and Home Assistant.

At PayMidas

  • Smart Escrowsmart-escrow.euEscrow for law firms handling property and other high-value deals.

Covers onboarding and KYC for each party, e-signing, and holding funds until the release conditions are met. I designed it and wrote most of it.

TanStack Start, Hono, Cloudflare Workers, Postgres, Drizzle

  • UniPocketunipocket.storeA store for mobile top-ups, e-money vouchers and gaming cards in Cyprus.

Customers pay by card and keep what they buy in their Pocket until they need it. Behind it is an admin portal for products, orders, support and reconciliation. I built it on the white-label platform below.

    The UniPocket homepage

TanStack Start, Hono, SQL Server, Kysely, Better Auth

  • Payments APILets partners use a licensed banking provider without integrating with it directly.

Mutual TLS to the bank, KYC onboarding, idempotent requests and webhook forwarding.

    Node, Hono, Kysely, Postgres

  • White-label platformA starting point for new financial products, rebranded from one config file.

Web apps for businesses and admins, an Expo mobile app and a typed API. So far it has been used for UniPocket, an event ticketing platform and a loyalty wallet.

    TanStack, Hono, Drizzle, Expo

  • Group websitespaymidas.euMarketing sites for the PayMidas group, from one monorepo with a shared CMS.

    Astro, Sanity, Cloudflare

  • Legacy rebuildsUpdating partners' older payment apps without replacing their backends.

An e-money portal restyled and made accessible in place, and a Cordova app rebuilt in Expo against the same gateway.

Most of this code is private. Happy to walk through it.

At home

This is my hobby. I run a small homelab with Home Assistant, and I build integrations, apps and local AI tools that solve everyday problems around the house. The projects below are open source. If one is useful to you, you can buy me a coffee.

For TVs and consoles

PRISM on the Shield: continue on the LG, favourite LG apps and quick TV settings

PRISM

Android TVv1.0.0

One remote for an Android TV box and an LG TV: while an LG app is on screen, the Shield's remote drives the TV, with a launcher for LG apps and quick TV settings, through Home Assistant.

For the home

Lamplight's agenda, timers and weather cards on wall tablets

Lamplight

Home Assistantv1.2.0

A design system for Home Assistant wall tablets, and six cards built on it, from weather to timers. Its core is a small ES module other cards can build on.

Three iPhone screens from Food Diary: checking a meal, today's calories and macros, and a week on target

Food Diary

Home Assistant · iPhonev1.6.1

A calorie and macro diary that runs in Home Assistant, with a native SwiftUI iPhone app, Apple Health sync, and planned meals that go straight into the diary.

The Mira Shower device page in Home Assistant, with shower, temperature and flow controls

Mira Mode

Home Assistantv0.2.0

A Home Assistant integration that controls a Mira Mode digital shower over Bluetooth LE, and counts the water and energy each shower uses.

Also running at home: local voice control (speech recognition and text-to-speech on my own server, with wall tablets as the microphones) and an LLM agent that can read and control the house (every action it proposes is checked before it runs).
